What is EID?

What is Eid?
Why do Muslims celebrates t?
Why do we have it?
Well before I answer all your questions, this little history about it may just do it…

Eid al-Qurban is an Islamic festival to commemorate the willingness of Ibrahim (Prophet, also known as Abraham) to follow Allah's (God's) command to sacrifice his son Ishmael. Muslims around the world observe this event. Eid Mubarak or Blessed Eid is a traditional Muslim greeting reserved for use on the festivals of Eid al-Qurban and Eid al-Fitr. Eid means "celebration" and refers to the occasion itself, and Mubarak means "blessed"; for example, performing the Eid prayer. So Eid, meaning “celebration,” and Mubarak, meaning “Blessed” literally translates to wishing your friends a blessed holiday. It happens in different times and days depending on which country you are in, anyway here are the times in Afghanistan…

  1. Hi Parwin,

Thank you for sharing this information about Eid. I didn't know that it was a special celebration and why. Your post has helped to inform me.

So what did you and your family do to celebrate Eid? Do you eat special food, or meet with friends (since it is about blessing others)? Do you have to wear special clothes or something else?

My family doesn't have many other celebrations really. We do celebrate birthdays and Christmas but that is about it. Our special tradition is Dan taking each child away for a 'birthday trip' when they have a birthday. The child chooses the place and then they go. Asher and Hannah love that trip.

It sounds like a wonderful time. I look forward to reading your answers.

  2. Thank you for your comment Mrs Spragg, We don't wear special clothes but we do wear new clothes that we haven't wore yet. We go to friends and families house too. We don't make that much special food but we make something called a Bosrogh and we make cake or cookies for anyone who comes. Again Thank you for your comment!
