SLJ- 8!

Hello Bloggers, I'm back and at it again!
Today is the 8th day of the Summer Learning Journey and also the holidays! That means there is only 3 weeks left or 15 days because it doesn't include the weekend, that's why! If you don't know what the Summer Learning Journey is then keep reading, otherwise, skip to the next paragraph! So the Summer Learning Journey happens through out the summer holidays and the reason why we should do it is because we spend all that time in school learning but when we have the holidays, we forget about everything because we are having so much fun! Then we have what is called a Summer Slump which kind of shows how your learning was, before and after the holidays. The reason why we should do it is so we don't forget everything we learnt but we also learn new things! If you come 1st, 2nd or 3rd, out of your school, then you win awesome prizes but if you come 1st out of your cluster you win a Chromebook or many other cool prizes! I think its worth it!

Each day, there are 2 main activities which are both worth 4 points and then there is a main activity which is worth 6 points. If you complete all of them, then you get 14 points in total! Each comment or reply you do as well is 2 points each! Okay, lets get started! This is what I have to do for the first activity!
Activity 1: The Right to Vote [4 points]
Kate Sheppard was a very famous and important New Zealander. In the late 1800s, she fought for women to have the right to vote in elections. She did this by creating petitions (lists with the names of people who supported her), running public meetings, writing letters to the newspaper, and talking to politicians.
As a result of her hard work, women in New Zealand (NZ) were first granted the right to vote in 1893. This made NZ the first country in the world to give women the right to vote. We call this right ‘women’s suffrage’.
In honour of Kate Sheppard’s work, the NZ government has put her image on the current $10 note.
For this activity, let’s imagine that the government decides to create a new $10 bank note and replace Kate with a picture of a different New Zealand woman.
On your blog, tell us who you think the government should put on the new $10 note. Please provide us with a picture of this amazing woman and a short explanation of why you have selected her as Kate Sheppard’s replacement.

Here is what I have done!

Here is the second activity!

Activity 2: The Right to an Education [4 points]
Malala Yousafzai is a woman who was born and raised in Pakistan. In 2012, she was shot and wounded when traveling home on the bus from school. At the time, girls (and women) living in Pakistan were not encouraged, or even allowed, to go to school. It is widely believed that Malala was attacked because she (and her father) did not agree with this idea and they felt that women had the right to an education.
Once Malala recovered from her injuries she continued to advocate (fight) for the rights of all women to receive an education. For this work, she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014 - the youngest person to ever receive this prestigious prize. You can read more of her story here.
As well as giving speeches in front of many very important and influential people, Malala has written books about her own life. She has also written a book for children called Malala’s Magic Pencil.
For this activity, we would like you like you to write a short story. The story can be about anything that you wish but to receive full points it must be at least 10 sentences long!
On your blog, share your short story. We can’t wait to read it!

Here is my story!
(Its a short but pretty scary one!)
The silence is lurking everywhere. The water is dripping on the cold ground and I wonder where I am. The wind is howling loudly outside. Everything was dusty as if a blunket of dust was layed upon everything. The hallways are dark and the floor is creaking with every step I take. My steps echo around the house with every step I take and the floor boards scream. I take a step and then something moves from above. I tilt my head upwards but I all I see is the ceiling and cobwebs everywhere. I look down and then I feel a cold shiver run down my spine. I had goosebumps everywhere. I keep walking and then I see something drip right infront of me. I look up slowly and see a white, pale face staring at me. Smile reaching from ear to ear. Teeth rotten and black. Clothes are dirty and dusty as the room itself. There’s something red. Around her mouth and on her sharp teeth. My eyes opened wide and I tried to run, but my body wouldn't listen. i relize what it was. It was blood...

Here is the bonus activity!
Activity 3: Belle of the Ball [6 points]
Emma Watson is a movie star who started acting in films when she was just nine years old. You might recognise her as Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter films or ‘Belle’ from the Disney adaptation of Beauty and the Beast.
When Emma is not acting, she spends a lot of time giving speeches and advocating for the rights of women and girls. In 2014 she launched the HeForShe campaign which encourages men and boys to actively support women and girls by speaking out about gender equality - the idea that males (men) and females (women) have the same rights. Emma is also an avid reader who started her own worldwide book club!
Let’s imagine that Emma has just emailed you and asked for your help. She needs a recommendation for a great book for her book club. She also needs you to prepare a short review of the book to share with her readers.
For this activity, choose a book that you like and write a short review of it. In the review, tell us what the book is about and what you like about it.
On your blog, share your book review with a photo or illustration (drawing) of the book.

  1. Konnichiwa Parwin,

Great work on your latest Summer Learning Journey post. I can see you are putting a lot of time and effort into your posts which is great to see so keep up the fantastic work.

What cool and creative story you have written. Do you do a lot of creative writing? What made you chose a scary story to write?
Your story gave me goosebumps too! I wonder what will happen next? Will you get away? I sure hope so.

I think Jacinda is a pretty inspirational person too and would be a good fit if we had to put someone new on the $10 note.
What is something she has done that you admire? I like that she really values children's education as well as how much she values mental health.

Until next time, happy blogging :)
    Emma

    1. Nǐ hǎo Emma, thank you so mcuh for commenting on my blog!

I really enjoy writing stories in my free time and I have a ton of stories which I have written which are lying around in my drive. I don't usually write scary stories so I decided that I would choose a different genre. It also gave my friends goosebumps when they were reading it. I'm not sure, will I get away, or will something happen to me?

Something she has done which I admire was when she was there and joined in with the grive when the shooting happened in March.

Thanks for taking your time and writing a positive comment,

I don't think I'm writing too much because I am explaining it and also acompleting the activity as well. I also need to show them what the activity is too.

Also, my name is splet 'Parwin' not 'Parvin'!

Another day of activities done and dusted - well done! :)

What a fantastic book review! It's very thorough and the presentation is awesome! I really like how you've explained what the story is about without giving away too much. Have you read the other books in this series?

    Blog ya later!
