Hooked on books!

Hey there bloggers!
Last week or 2 weeks ago, we had our hooked on books week which is where we read a new book each day and we have questions based on the books. One of my favourite one was Liars the truth app because it straight away goes into the problem and doesn't take long to build up. The book Liars was a about a boy who made a truth app and someone tried killing him and his dad when they were driving but he doesn't know who it was and when he does he becomes very shocked. You should tread the book, it's such a good book but when our teacher read it and she had to stop, we were all very sad because we wanted to know what happened but luckily, I put a hold on the book and have read the book. As I said before, each book has  different questions and here are the questions and answers for the start of the book. We also had book character day and I dressed as a person from the book The storm keepers island which is a really good book. There were lots of people dressed from different books and they all looked amazing, here are some photos! I hope you enjoy and if you have any questions then please ask! We are so close to finishing it!

Hey there bloggers, as you may know, we have been doing this Inquiry which is called 'Waste not, want not' which we started with Mrs. Stratton and we picked a topic. My one was about ocean pollution and first, we had to do all these researching and now, we get to present it. I have done with my friend Jedi because we both had the same topic so we teamed up. So far, we just need to finish this booklet and then we get to do our action learning! We have been working very hard on this together and trying to add lots of information and make it look pretty. Here is how we presented it and here is our booklet that we are making at the moment! I hope you enjoy and I would like some feedback on how we can improve the booklet that we are making and if we have made any mistakes, we would like it if you tell us! Thanks!

My own book!

This week is Hooked on book week when we read a new book every day and the book that we are reading today is called Cool Nukes. My favourite book is Liars because it got straight into action but for each book, there are questions and we had to answer them. One of the things that we had to do was make a book of your own and publish it. It can be a new one or you get a story and put yourself in it as one of the characters. My book was sort of based on the book The Storm Keepers Island. This is my book and you can't really read it so here is the written version of it! I would like you feedback and comments and how I could improve my story!

“Tara! Don’t push me!” I shouted.

Tara was on her phone and was taking selfies of herself. I hate those selfies that she takes. My stomach starts to roll over and over again and I feel like I am about to vomit. I hated the ship but most of all I hated the ocean. The ship was going slower than it was when it started. I had to sit next to an elderly lady who snored loudly, hopefully we would reach Arranmore Island as soon as possible. I stared at the ocean, the hungry eyes staring back at me. I hated the ocean, ever since Dad… Never mind, I had to sit still and wait for Arranmore Island to appear. It was pretty foggy because it was still pretty early so I couldn’t see much but the ocean.

It felt like a whole day passed when finally, we were Arranmore Island. I waited to see My Grandad. But he wasn't anywhere to be seen.

“Hey Tara, isn’t grandad meant to come and pick us up?” I asked her.

“No because he is old and he has stuff to do, besides I know the way because I came here last summer.” Replied Tara.

I clambered along the steep hill, Tara said that grandads house was on a hill. We finally went up and then finally we were at his house. I was super tired and it was around noon by the time we got there.

“Ahhh, Parwin, you have grown so much! How was the Ship, Tara told me you are afraid of the sea, hey?” Greeted Grandad.

I replied, “Well the ship was pretty bumpy but I am excited to come here!”

We had a quick meal and I examined the house. There were shelves full of candles with labels on them.

There were different types of candles of every colour. One of them was black at the bottom and reen at the top and it read ‘Fado Fado’ which meant long long ago. Grandad was in the backyard making candles and Tara was out somewhere. I got bored so I got a book from one the dusty shelves and started reading it. It was about Natural Disasters that happened. I was reading about Pompeii when I saw that outside of was getting darker. I was tired and I wasn’t hungry so I went to bed. But I couldn’t sleep, there were thoughts racing in my head. But after a while, I drifted off to sleep.

“Grandad?” I asked Grandad.

“Yes.” He replied. “Um, why do you have so many candles with different labels on them?”

“Well, these aren't just normal candles, when you burn them, the wind takes you to that time and what happened at that time. My oldest one is Fado Fado which as you know means long long ago. Do you want to see what happens?”

“Yes please!” he held the candle in his hand with a lighter and he burned the stick and held tightly to my hand.

“Don’t let go.”

I held on tight like he said and then everything around us started getting windy and it felt like we were stuck in a tornado but after a while, the wind stopped and we were standing somewhere different.

The sky was orange and bright, it was almost dark. One half of the sky was bright and beautiful but the other half was dark and spooky.

“This is when Morrigan and Dagda had a battle.” My grandad told me. Then out of nowhere, there was a lady standing there with dark clothes floating in the air and wherever it went, there were shadows following it. With one point, the sea went up and bolted towards Dagda who kneeled down with pain. His Emerald staff in one hand. He pointed his staff and the sea and made it calm as it went back to what it was before. I looked like Dagda was in trouble. I wanted to go closer but Grandad tugged on my hand.

“We cannot go closer, stay here and look.” Said my Grandad. They battled each other but Morrigan, was stronger. Morrigan shouted things at Dagda and Dagda didn’t notice, until everything around went back to normal. We were back at my grandads house.

“What happened to Dagda?” I asked with curiosity.

“Nobody knows what happened next or who won.”

And with that he went back to making candles. I skipped outside, the warm breeze slapping my face and the birds were chirping loudly. It was a beautiful day, but then all of a sudden, I felt a bag on my head and then my hands got tied up. I shouted for help but nobody came. I got lifted up and then I got dumped inside a car, I could feel it. I was shouting loudly for help. “Should we do it now boss?” Asked a voice.

“Go ahead, that will at least make her quite for a bit.” Replied another voice. The bag then went up and I tried to yell for help and tried to have a good look but hands went over my eyes and I couldn’t see. I tried yelling for help but then  went something go over my mouth and just below my nose. Then I felt unconscious and drifted off to sleep…

Diary Entry of a...

Hey there bloggers!

I am back and today I am going to be posting something that I have already done but I showed my friend when I made it and she said that I should post it but I forgot. And today, we have to do blogging so I thought that I should do a blog post about that. I did this based on my reading work that I did about the Canadian goose. It was one of the activities that I had to do so instead of just adding lot's of information, I kind of did that but made it funny too because let's be honest, I wouldn't want to read a diary entry where everything is normal. As Canadian Goose, I kind of made it funny because it was the last thing I had to do and I did that last because I didn't really want to do it. And when I only had that left, Im just like 'Fine I'll do it'. After a while of adding funny things and trying to add interesting stuff in it, I was finally done. So I decided that I should share this with you so here it is and I hope that you enjoy it and I would like your feedback and comments!

Hey there bloggers, I  am back and for my blog post for this week, I have decided to inform you about what is going on in Afghanistan. The Taliban have been attacking Ghazni witch is a Province in Afghanistan. They need our help and we need to help them. The Taliban have been burning their houses. They used to leave old people but now they even kill them too. They have done many bad stuff and all that is in this presentation that I have made. Sensational Sailing Trip!

Super Sensational sailing trip!

I had a dream that we went sailing and guess what? It actually happened! On 2nd of November, we
were going to go sailing because our lovely teachers set some things up for us to go sailing. When I
woke up, I already had my clothes on that I was going to wear that day.  I was so excited that I woke
up in the middle of the night and put on my clothes that I was going to wear that day. Jumping out of
bed, I quickly ate my breakfast but the bad thing was that: there weren't any muffins left, or apples, or
biscuits or even NUTELLA! That just had to ruin my day today!

I have a younger brother and his name is Sahil and he goes to the same school as me but he is very
slow at eating and I thought that we were going to be late because he ate so slowly. Luckily, I got to
school just in time and I didn’t forget anything either! The first thing that I did when I came into my
classroom was examine everybody's outfit and what they were wearing because there were different
colours and styles everywhere! There were lots of excited faces and some nervous ones too because
most of us had already been sailing but a few of us hadn’t.

We hopped into the bus and kids started chatting about their day to come and how they felt. I felt pretty
nervous but I was also excited to be going sailing because I hadn’t been since our school trip last year.
 The first thing that we had to do was to get the boat ready because we couldn’t just hop in the boat and
we didn’t know how to sail the boat properly. I had already remembered some of the things that we had
to remember last year like rigging the boat but we didn’t remember all the names of the equipment. We
tied and made sure that everything was in place. We learnt how to sail the boat and how to control it so
it wouldn't tip once we were on the waters. The first session went by, as we set up the boats, and then
it was morning tea time. We only had a quick snack and then we did a bit more learning with the boats
and then we were ready to go on the water!

I was nervous when we were on the boat by ourselves because there wasn’t any room for more than
1 person. At first I was worried, I thought that the boat was going to tip over, but surprisingly it didn’t
and I got the hang of it. I went out on the boat tonnes of times, I was having so much fun sailing! Once
everybody had a go, if they didn’t want to try again, they didn’t have to but I kept going because I was
having so much fun! The only people who capsized were Louis and Eben but I don’t blame them
because it was their first time going sailing. We were shouting their names when the boat tipped over
and everybody was worried, some people thought it was funny and just started cracking up.

MInutes felt like seconds as the day passed on and before I knew it, it was lunch time! I was pretty
happy because I was hungry after helping and sailing the boats. We ate our lunch and we played with
the equipment that we had brought with us from school. We played volleyball and we had lots of fun
but we had to stop playing and then we were back in our boats sailing again. At first there were only a
few boats that we could sail on but every now and then, they added boats since we were so good at it.
We kept sailing but then it was time to go home but before we could do that, we had to put all the boats
away in the container. We undid all the ties and put away all the things.  We hopped onto the bus and
we were ready to go but the gate was closed! Nobody had the keys except one of the tutors that had
already left. We tried calling them, but they didn’t pick up their phone.

We thought we were going to stay there forever but a teacher and kids from Riccarton High School
had arrived and they had keys! Yes!  We were on our way again and after all that sailing, I was tired!
There was one word that could describe the day! SENSATIONAL!

Kapa Haka

Hey there bloggers, I'm back!
And today, the kapa haka group had the honor to perform at the Uru Manuka Culturel Festival 2018!
I was in the Kapa Haka group along with my classmates, to the year 1's and older. I was impressed by how well everybody did since some people like the year 1's and 2's because when we did our practice, they were quite but when we went to the festival, I almost went deaf really. I think that we did well because we only practiced once a week and some of the week's, Matua didn't come because he was sick. But we give it our full energy and we had lot's of fun even though it was pretty nerve-racking.

The songs that we sand weren't as loud but when we did the haka it was very loud and full of energy as everyone moved swiftly like each other like we were clones or something. I think that it was lot's of one and I think that we should have festivals like that because we really deserve it and even though when you are really nervous, once you get on stage you just sing loudly and when we did the haka, we just let all our anger go out and just say the words as loud as we could. I was really when our performance was finished because we had to wait a super long time until we actually did another performance again!

My teacher, Mrs. Tayor, and my Principle,  Mr. Robertson had taken photos and videos of us. We had cool costumes this year and Grace, Julia, Jedi and I, wore those cool furry coats which we didn't even know about until we peeked in the box! I was more excited than I was before because we got to wear the furry coats! It made us look super amazing with the coats and we were super happy about that!

Best day of my life!

This is a recount that we wrote based on a movie that we saw that was called Taking Flight.
During this time I have been learning about what you need to make your recount interesting and to get the readers attention and how to write a recount. I found it difficult to add all the things that a recount needs because I keep forgetting. Before we did recounts, my other recounts were pretty boring and didn't really catch the readers attention, and I think that I have improved by catching the readers attention. I would like your feedback and comments about what I can change next time! Hope you enjoy!
