Hello Bloggers, I'm back and at it again!
Today is the 6th day of the Summer Learning Journey and also the holidays! That means there is only 3 weeks left or 15 days because it doesn't include the weekend, that's why! If you don't know what the Summer Learning Journey is then keep reading, otherwise, skip to the next paragraph! So the Summer Learning Journey happens through out the summer holidays and the reason why we should do it is because we spend all that time in school learning but when we have the holidays, we forget about everything because we are having so much fun! Then we have what is called a Summer Slump which kind of shows how your learning was, before and after the holidays. The reason why we should do it is so we don't forget everything we learnt but we also learn new things! If you come 1st, 2nd or 3rd, out of your school, then you win awesome prizes but if you come 1st out of your cluster you win a Chromebook or many other cool prizes! I think its worth it!
Each day, there are 2 main activities which are both worth 4 points and then there is a main activitiy which is worth 6 points. If you complete all of them, then you get 14 points in total! Each comment or reply you do as well is 2 points each! Okay, lets get started! This is what I have to do for the first activity!

Activity 1: Playing Favourites [4 points]
Barack Obama was the President of the United States of America (USA) from 2009 - 2017. He made history as the first African American person to be elected President of the USA.
Barack Obama was born in Hawaii. His father was from Kenya, Africa and his mother was American. His parents divorced when he was young and his father died in a car crash when Barack was 21 years old. As a young man Barack studied law at university which is where he met his wife, Michelle.
Together, Barack and Michelle have spent much of their adult lives helping others and giving back to their community. When they are not at work, they can be found doing their favourite things, including spending time with their family, playing with their dog, or going to the gym.
What do you like to do for fun? Do you also enjoy spending time with family? Do you have a special pet?
For this activity, create a list of your ‘Top 5’ favourite things to do and take a photo of yourself doing each of these things.
On your blog post both your list and your photos of your favourite things.

Here is what I have done!
Here is the second activity!
Dr Jessa Rogers (Metuamate) is a Aborignal Australian and a leader in indigenous education. She grew up in Queensland, Australia, and when she had a baby while she was still at school, it seemed like her education would suffer. However, Jessa not only completed her high school education, but she went on to University and completed several degrees, including a PhD which means she is called Dr Rogers!
Dr Jessa Rogers became the first school principal (and youngest Aboriginal principal in Australia) of the Cape York Girl Academy, a school in far north Queensland for young indigenous mums and their babies. For her work on improving indigenous education in Australia, she won the NAIDOC Youth of the Year award in 2010, has gone on to win many more awards and write several books.
Dr Rogers is a proud member of the Wiradjuri people, an Indigenous community in Australia, and has a strong connection to New Zealand. In fact, her husband is affiliated with two iwi in New Zealand - Ngāti Kauwhata, Ngāti Raukawa, and he is also of Cook Island and Tahitian decent. Jessa is currently working at the University of Canberra as an assistant professor.
For this activity, we would like you to calculate Jessa’s age when she won the NAIDOC Youth of the Year award. She was born on 7 April 1985 and she received the award on 9 July 2010. Please provide the answer to this question in years, months and days (eg. 20 years, 6 months and 2 days).
On your blog, please post both your final answer and an explanation of how you solved this maths problem. You could write your explanation, or use screencastify to record yourself explaining how you solved it.

I will just do it on here!
She was born in 7/4/1985. That means she is 34 years old, 7 months and 19 days old at the moment. She got an award 2012. I don't know the exact date but if I had to minus 7 from 34, that is 27. If it were today, a couple of years ago, she would be 27 years old, 7 months and 19 days old because I don't know the date she got the award apart from the fact that it was in 2012!
Here is the bonus activity!

The Right Honorable Jacinda Ardern is the current Prime Minister (PM) of New Zealand (NZ). You might have heard of her because she’s in the news a lot! Did you know that she is the second youngest person and the second woman ever to be elected PM of NZ?
As PM, Jacinda Ardern makes a number of important decisions every day. Before she makes these decisions, she meets with many people to hear their ideas and get their perspectives (views) on issues.
Let’s imagine you were to write a letter to Jacinda Ardern about an issue that is really important to you, and to ask her for help. It could be something serious to do with education, health or welfare, or it could be something more fun and crazy - you decide!
For this activity, please write a letter that includes the issue you have chosen, why you have chosen it, and what you would like our Prime Minister, Jacinda Arden, to do about it. It is your job to persuade us (and her!) that it’s an important issue.
On your blog, share your letter to Prime Minister Jacinda Arden.
Remember, you never know who might read your blog!
Here is my letter!
Dear Primer Minister, Jacinda Arden,
My name is Parwin and I am a 13 year old girl. I am writing to you because I am concerned about something and that is our nature. I am concerned about this because our water ways are getting polluted, out native plants are dying and how climate change is effecting our beautiful Aotearoa. This all effects not only NZ, but the people who live in NZ as well. One of the things that NZ is known for its environment. If we using cars, petrol and if we keep polluting the air with our factories and many other things, our NZ that is known for its environment, will not be known for it anymore. What I am trying to say is, we should be more kind to nature and think about the future. I know you might be busy dealing with other things, but this is also very important because it effects everyone.
Kind regards,
Parwin
That is it for today, I hope you enjoyed! If you have any questions, please ask! Otherwise, until next time, goodbye!
Hello Parvin,
ReplyDeleteIts me Alan. I did not know you was in the summer learning journey.
Excellent job maddie and a very catchy title. I really liked how you made the photo.
This reminds me of when I did this but I did not do it like that I took a photo of myself doing it but I couldn't take 2 photos.
If you want to improve maybe you can add a colourful background.
Awesome work!
Looking forward to your next posts,
Kind regards
Alan
Hello Alan, thank you so much for commenting on my blog!
DeleteI am in the Summer Learning Journey like last year. I think you got the things wrong cause you were probably going to comment on Maddies as well so you muddled it up a bit.
I might use a website or something because I like to keep the background white instead of it being coloured.
Thanks for taking your time and writing a positive comment,
Parwin
Hi Parwin,
ReplyDeleteGreat work on completing another Summer Learning Journey activity - keep up the good work. Don’t forget to comment back to blog commenters as well as on others SLJ blog posts to gain extra points.
Cool poster you have created to tell your readers about your favourite things to do. That is great that you are an artist, you must be very creative. What do you enjoy sketching most? Abstracts or landscapes maybe? I'd love to see one of your sketches.
I love that you are passionate about nature and our environment. It is really sad how much pollution is in our waterways. When I was young we used to go swimming in the river all the time however now, a lot of them are too polluted to swim in which is really sad.
What things do you think the government should put in place to help stop the pollution to our waterways?
Until next time, happy blogging :)
Emma
Hello Emma, thank you so much for commenting on my blog!
DeleteI usually like sketching people or senery or nature. I like landscapes more than abstracts, how about you? Mayeb I could send you some photos of my favourite sketches although they aren't professional!
I think that not only the government, but everyone should try and put a stop to pollution and we should use things which can be reused or are bodegradeable which means they can break down themselves, naturally.
Thanks for taking your time and writing a positive comment,
Parwin

ReplyDeleteHey Parwin,
ReplyDeleteGreat attempt at our Summer Learning Journey maths activity. It looks like your answers a wee bit different from what we got though. Why don't you have another go using this to help you and I'll check back in soon to see how you got on.
