Trip To ECO Sort

Hey there bloggers, did you know that last Wednesday on 22nd of August, we went to ECO sort. Eco sort is a place where they sort all the rubbish that you put in the big wheelies bins. We learned lots of things like the 5 R's which are...

  • Reduce-Reduce the amount of rubbish.
  • Reuse-Reuse things and turn them into other things.
  • Recycle-Things that are recyclable, put them in the yellow bin because they can be turned into something new.
  • Recover-Recover things into something new.
  • Residual Disposal-Residual Disposal just means rubbish.
Usually, we would only use the first 3 R's and we already knew those but then we had to learn 2 more. We got into a group of 4 and Chris who was our tutor and Chris gave us a card each and we had to put the 5 R's in the right order. We all got it right and we were the 2nd school to get it right the first time out of 100's of schools who also visited the ECO sort. We also learned things that we didn't know, something interesting that I learned was that plastic is turned into thermals! I did hear about it but I didn't believe it. We also learned about the machines and what they do to separate each sort of things.
I was interested in how it works and I learned that to separate the steel cans and things, they have this magnet that separates them from the other ones.  After we learned about the machinery and things, we went to the eco drop which is where anyone can drop things off that they don't need and most of it goes to the ECO shop. There were all sorts of things from gas bottles to furniture. Once we had a look at the ECO drop, went to the eco shop and we had a budget of $500 pretend dollars, to buy things for a new flat which only had a toilet, bath/shower, sinks and things and we had to get the rest like furniture, fridge, and plates. We go to pick who our partner was and I was with Jedi. We only spent around 206 dollars out of $500. After that, we went back to school and we had the speech competition.
That was it for the trip and I hope you enjoyed reading my blog post!
