SLJ- 3!

Hey bloggers, I'm back and at it again!
Today is the third day of not only the Summer Holidays but also the Summer Learning Journey. If you don't know what it is then keep reading on but if you already know what it is then skip on to the next paragraph. So the Summer Learning Journey happens through out the summer holidays and the reason why we should do it is because we spend all that time in school learning but when we have the holidays, we forget about everything because we are having so much fun! Then we have what is called a Summer Slump which kind of shows how your learning was, before and after the holidays. The reason why we should do it is so we don't forget everything we learnt but we also learn new things! If you come 1st, 2nd or 3rd, out of your school, then you win awesome prizes but if you come 1st out of your cluster you win a Chromebook or many other cool prizes! I think its worth it!

Every day, there are 2 main activities which are worth 4 points each and a bonus activity which is worth 6 points! If you do all of them that's 14 points! If you do any comments or reply to people then you get 2 points for each one! Today, I am going to be doing the activities for day 3, week 1 and even though I can do it any order, I'm just doing it like this! Here is activity one!

Activity 1: Rugby Superstars [4 points]
Jonah Lomu was a rugby superstar. He was the youngest ever All Black, selected at just 19 years of age. He went on to have an amazing career that included 63 caps (international games) and 37 tries. Jonah was Tongan, but spent most of his childhood in Mangere, South Auckland. He started out playing touch rugby and rugby league but changed over to rugby union and quickly made a name for himself. He was very tall, strong and fast.
Richie McCaw is another example of a famous rugby player. He was the captain of the All Blacks between 2004 and 2015. Like Jonah Lomu, he had an outstanding international career in rugby union and had many achievements. In fact he was the most capped All Black captain, most capped test rugby player and World Rugby Player of the Year in 2006, 2009, and 2010. He has been given a Halberg Award and made a member of the Order of New Zealand. As well as being an outstanding player, Richie McCaw was also a strong leader and captain.
For many people, players like Jonah Lomu and Richie McCaw are superheroes with extra special ‘superpowers.’
For this activity, let’s imagine that you could be a superhero for a day. What three superpowers would you most like to have?
On your blog, please list the three superpowers, tell us why you have chosen each one, and tell us what you are going to do with them.

I have done this on a Prezi, here it is!

Here is what we have to do for activity 2!

Activity 2: Defying the Odds [4 points]
LeBron James is one of the most famous professional basketball players in the world. He currently plays in the NBA (National Basketball Association) for the Los Angeles Lakers. He has won numerous awards over the years, helping his teams win many important games.
Steven Adams also plays in the NBA, but unlike LeBron, Steven comes from Rotorua, New Zealand and is the half-brother of Olympic gold medalist Valerie Adams. That’s a pretty cool family connection, isn’t it?! Steven Adams currently lives in the United States and plays for the Oklahoma City Thunder basketball team.
Despite being born in different countries, these two incredible basketballers have a number of similarities. Both men came from humble beginnings. Neither of their families had a lot of money, and neither man grew up with a father at home. Even though they faced challenges, they were able to overcome them. Both men are examples of what is possible when you work hard and believe in yourself.
For this activity, we would like you to imagine that you had the chance to interview LeBron James, Steven Adams or another basketball player of your choice.
On your blog, tell us who you would interview and then provide a list of five questions that you would like to ask your chosen player.

Here is what I have done!

Here is the bonus activity!

Activity 3: Achieving our Dreams [6 points]
The Silver Ferns are New Zealand’s professional netball team. They are based in Auckland and play against teams from all over the world. Next year they are due to compete in the first ever Netball Nations cup competition in England.
In order to earn a place on the team, each of the players had to prove that they were one of the best netball players in the country. They have all had to work very hard, sacrifice many things, and show dedication and determination throughout their careers. In many cases, they have also had a lot of support from others - their family, friends, teachers, coaches. This support has allowed them to pursue their dreams and to, ultimately, do a job that they love.
For this activity, choose a friend or family member and ask them what their dream job would be. Please then brainstorm six ways in which you could support them in achieving their dream job.
On your blog, present your ideas as a poster or infographic.

I have asked my younger brother Sahil what he wants to be when he grows up! He wants to be a Lawyer when he grows up. I might not be able to think of 6 ways but I will try my best!
We could pretend to be lawyers because then he would kind of be prepared and it would also help him as well.
Help him learn the laws because a Lawyer needs to know those.
I could ask him different questions about the law and see if he knows.
I could kind of like put him in different situations where he has to find proof and defend that person because that is what a Lawyer does.
I could maybe like blame him for something and then he would kind of have to prove his innocence using proof because that would help him.
I could maybe give him different choices for finding proof but only one of them are like the best one or one that you could actually find proof from and he would have to pick the right one.
Yes, I actually thought of 6 different ways, YAY! Although some of them might not actually make sense but at least I tried!
That was my blog post for today,  hoped you enjoyed! If you have any questions then please ask! Otherwise, until next time, goodbye!

  1. Hi Parwin!

My name is Lyan and I from Hornby High School(HHS). You have made a cool post, it is really detailed, I really liked your presentation because it is really creative and it is a really cool layout. Next time I recommend you to put the activities on individual posts as it is easier to find.

Please keep up your great work!

    1. Hello Lyan, thank you for commenting on my blog!

I appreciate the fact that you have taken your time into writing a positive comment! Thank you for the helpful part as well but I like to just do it on 1 blog post and for me, I think it is pretty easy to kind of find out because I have said which is which. I might think about it though!

Again, I would like to thank you for the positive feedback,
      Parwin

  2. Kia ora Parwin,

Great job on another well presented Summer Learning Journey blog post. Keep up the great work. And thank you for taking the time to leave your classmates thoughtful comments. Keep those points rolling in.

I like the way you have created the slides to explain what super powers you would have, I really enjoyed watching them. Being able to stop time would be a pretty cool one, what would you do while everyone else was stopped apart from you?

It sounds like you would be a fantastic sidekick for your brother as he became a lawyer. What would your dream job be and how do you think he could help you achieve your dream?

Until next time, happy blogging :)

    1. Hello Emma, thank you for commenting on my blog!

I appreciate the positive, thoughtful, helpful comment which you have written for me, thank you! I'm happy to hear that you have enjoyed it! I think that I would maybe go around and see what everyone is doing or change something and then start the time again. Then they will be shocked and it would be funny too!

Thanks, well my dream job would be to either become a professional hockey player, become a private investigator or police or become an architect. I have many things I want to be!

Again, I would like to thank you for the positive feedback,
      Parwin

  3. Hi Parwin! My name is Mia from Yaldhurst Model School (as you know). Wow! Amazing work, you have certainly outdone yourself this time! You really are up for the competition, just like you said in your comment on my blog.

I loved the way that you have been able to add in all the instructions from the SLJ site and that we know what you are doing! I also loved your superpowers! I would love to have mind-reading powers too, but I would also love to have the power to fly. Why didn't you choose some of the common ones like flying, strength or speed?

I am think very hard to figure out what you could improve on, there was one thing, and is to show your brainstorm on the last activity on a poster or infographic.

    Everything else ace-standard!
I look forward to seeing more of your posts.
    Great work!
    Mia

    1. Hello Mia, thank you for taking your time and writing a wonderful comment!

Thank you and the reason why I inserted them was because I kind of did it like that last year so I decided that I would just do the same thing again. Well, I don't know, I kind of want to have one of those powers the most but if I got to have any other powers, I would choose one of those!

I will show a brainstorm if I have any time but thanks for the feedback! Also, you had a mistake when you were writing the helpful part but I understood you!

Again, I would like to thank you for the positive feedback,
      Parwin

    2. Hello Parwin! It's Mia! back on your blog to reply to your reply to my comment, whew, that was long. I am currently doing that activity, and I chose to be able to bend air because that way I can have speed and flying abilities. Oops, sorry, must've been typing really fast. Would you want to be able to bend air? Or water?

      Toodley doo!
      Mia

    3. Hello Mia, its me, of course!

I think I would want to be an air bender too because I could do cool tricks as an air bender like you. I think that it was Mika or you who said that I suit an Air Bender more than the other ones.

Thanks for replying to my reply, if that makes any sense!

      Toodles!

  4. Hello Parvin ,
Its me Alan. I did not know you was in the summer learning journey.

Excellent job Parvin and a very catchy title. I really liked how you made the video.

This reminds me of when I did this but I did not do it like a vedio.

If you want to improve maybe you can write more so that we can know more.
    Awesome work!
Looking forward to your next posts,
    Kind regards
    Alan

    1. Hello Alan, thank you so much for commenting on my blog!

It wasn't actually a video but it is actually a Prezi but it does kind of look like a video. Its like a presentation!

I don't really know what you mean for the improvment, in what part should I write more? What did you mean?

Also, before pressing publish, maybe you could make sure to make sure you don't have any errors!

Thanks for taking your time and writing a positive comment,
      Parwin
