SLJ- 19!

Hello Bloggers, I'm back and at it again!
Today is the 19th day of the Summer Learning Journey and also the holidays! If you don't know what the Summer Learning Journey is then keep reading, otherwise, skip to the next paragraph! So the Summer Learning Journey happens through out the summer holidays and the reason why we should do it is because we spend all that time in school learning but when we have the holidays, we forget about everything because we are having so much fun! Then we have what is called a Summer Slump which kind of shows how your learning was, before and after the holidays. The reason why we should do it is so we don't forget everything we learnt but we also learn new things! If you come 1st, 2nd or 3rd, out of your school, then you win awesome prizes but if you come 1st out of your cluster you win a Chromebook or many other cool prizes! I think its worth it!

Each day, there are 2 main activities which are both worth 4 points and then there is a main activity which is worth 6 points. If you complete all of them, then you get 14 points in total! Each comment or reply you do as well is 2 points each! Okay, lets get started! This is what I have to do for the first activity!

Activity 1: Fashion forward [4 points]
Coco Chanel was a French fashion designer from the early 1900s. She was very influential because she designed clothes for women that were beautiful, but also comfortable and practical. Before Coco came along, European women wore corsets which pulled in their waists, and dresses that had lots of lace. Coco Chanel introduced a completely new style, influenced by men’s fashion - trousers (pants), monochrome (black and white) fabric, and looser tops.
Twenty Seven Names is a contemporary (current) New Zealand fashion label that is also influential. The founders of the company are two friends, Rachel Easting and Anjali Burnett. Rachel and Anjali met when they were at primary school. When they left school, Anjali studied fashion design and Rachel studied art, before they set up their own business designing and making clothing. Where possible they employ young women and they keep as much of their production (making) in New Zealand as possible.
For this activity, please read this article about where some famous New Zealand brands got their names from. Brand names are very important to companies as this is how they are known.
On your blog, tell us how Twenty Seven Names got their name. Looking at their clothing brand, tell us whether you think this is a good name for them, or if they should change it to something else!

Here is what I have done!
I did make it on Biteable but i'm having trouble embedding or uploading it to here and I can't donwload it either so I'll write my answers here!
I think that TWenty Seven Names is a very unique name and different other fashion brands or names or any names. I haven't heard of any other brands with a similar name was this but it is creative. The story of how they came up with the fashion brand and everything was cool too like how they both studied different things but still were able to work together and use both of their skills.
Here is the 2nd activity!
Activity 2: Try Your Own Tapa [4 points]
Fatu Feu’u is a Samoan artist who lives in Aotearoa/New Zealand. He is mostly known for being a painter but he also creates sculptures, pottery, prints and glass works.
As an artist, Fatu Feu’u is primarily influenced by tapa cloth (siapo) patterns from Samoa, as well as tatau (tattoo), weaving, carving, and mask designs.
Many Pacific Islands have their own versions of tapa cloth. In Tonga it is called the ngatu, in Fiji - the masi, in Niue - the hiapo, in the Cook Islands - the tapa, and in Hawaii - the kapa. You can learn more about tapa cloth here.

For this activity please create your own tapa cloth design. You can draw your design on paper or using a drawing app such as Google Draw.
On your blog, post an image (photo or screenshot) or your tapa design and describe what each part of your picture represents (means).

Here is my Tapa!

Its kinda blury but I don't know why. Anyways, the design kind of shoes how there is a flower where all of the petals are different colours representing the different races I guess and it shows the hands holding each other for support showing that we should kind of help eachother.

Here is the last activity!

Activity 3: Top Secret Street Art [6 points]
Banksy” is an influential artist from England. He is very private and secretive. In fact, almost no one knows who he really is - he always creates his art in secret! Banksy often uses stencils to create his street art.
Street art, or graffiti art, is all around us. Sometimes the art tells a story, sometimes it makes a building look more interesting, and sometimes it makes us think hard about something. In 2011, the city of Christchurch experienced a huge earthquake. A lot of the central city buildings fell down. It takes a long time to rebuild a city, and there are areas of Christchurch where buildings are still damaged and/or need to be rebuilt. Street artists in Christchurch have seen this as a chance to create artwork that helps to make the city beautiful again. You can see lots of amazing street art in Christchurch at the moment! Here is a site that shows you where to find it.

For this activity, take a look at the Christchurch street art website and choose two different pieces of artwork. Look carefully at both pieces of art, and identify similarities and differences between the two.
On your blog, post screenshots of the two different pieces of art that you have chosen. Below the pictures tell us about the similarities and differences that you see in the two pieces of street art.
*Remember to attribute any images that you borrow from the internet or from other people.

Here is what I have done!

The pictures are different from eachother because the first one is kind of like a cartoon type of art while the 2nd one is a bit more relaistic. You can tell what is going on with the 2nd one but in the first one, it kind of looks like the girl is running away from one of the creatures but I'm not sure what the artist was trying to make with this one. I can relate to the 2nd one more because sometimes it is like that and I wish that sometimes, it was like that. I sometimes just look at something and then make stories about that and wish it was real but I know its just me imagining it.

Thats it for today, hope you enjoyed! If you have any questions, then please ask! Otherwise, until next time, goodbye!

  1. Malo e lelei Parwin,

Congratulations on completing another days worth of activities! I'm so impressed by the amount of effort you're putting into the Summer Learning Journey - well done! :)

Well said, Parwin. I think Twenty-Seven Names is a great name as well. Especially when you know the story behind it. If you were a fashion designer, what would you call your clothing label?

Wow, what a thoughtful siapo design! I really like the way you've consider difference and diversity and designed something accordingly. It's beautiful.

Great analysis of these two artworks, Parwin. It can be tricky to interpret what artists are trying to say with their work, can't it? I appreciate you giving it a go. :)
Do you like art? I used to love art when I was at school.

Have a wonderful day and a great weekend!

    Blog ya later,

    Mikey

    1. Oh! And I'm sorry to hear that your Biteable wouldn't upload. I would have loved to have seen it. Hopefully the problem sorts itself out and you can post it another day. :)

      Bye for now,

      Mikey

    2. Hello Mikey, thank you so much for commenting on my blog!

Yes, Twenty Seven names is a very unique name! I'm not sure but if I did have a fashion brand, then I might call it PK or somethig, not sure!

I personally love art! I enjoy sketching the most and I usually do lots of sketches in my free time. I love art but we don't really do mcuh of it at school, but when we do, I really enjoy it!

What type of art do you enjoy doing?

Thank you for taking your time and writing a positive comment,
      Parwin
